Creating a STAAR and TEKS Informal Assessment
1. What TEKS did you select:
TEKS (3.13) (A) measure to solve problems involving length, [area,] temperature, and time.
2. What STAAR objective does the TEK coincide?
Staar Objective 4 : The student will demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and uses of measurement.
3. After studying the TEK and the STAAR objective, how do they relate to each other?
The TEK and STAAR objective relate to each other in that both the student needs to have a working understanding of measurement. The STAAR is more broad as to what measurement is, where the TEK is more specific, but in the end students need to show they have mastered the TEK to be able to be able to meet the STAAR objective, which is to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and uses of measurement.
4. After studying the TEK and the STAAR objective, how are they different?
Like I said in question 4, the STAAR objective is very broad. I leaves it open to include anything that can be considered measurement. The TEK is more specific in what students need to master. Also, the TEK requires students to measure to solve problems involving...[area], while that is not something that is assessed on the STAAR.
5. What is your formative assessment?
I would have different types of formative assessments. I would have students keep a math journal for notes and practice problems. I would also have exit tickets, where students need to work out a problem before leaving the class. I pick up the journals periodically and keep exit tickets to check see how far a student has come and show to me if there is anything I would need to reteach.
